Ashford racer Nathan Heathcote will race an LD Motorsports Supercar in the Toyo Tyres MSA British Rallycross Championship which heads to Lydden Hill, Kent for round two on Monday 17 April.
The 2016 Swift Sport Rallycross Champion will begin the year in the Citroen C4 that multiple British RX champion Pat Doran raced last season, but could swap to one of the team’s Citroen DS3s for round three. Before that Heathcote will join a quality field at the spiritual home of rallycross, which also hosts Britain’s round of the FIA World Rallycross Championship presented by Monster Energy over the weekend of 27-28 May.
“I’m absolutely buzzing to race a Supercar this year,” said Heathcote. “It’s a big step up from the Swifts but I’ve watched them a lot and it’s a buzz just being around them. I’ll probably do the first two rounds in the C4 and then see how it’s going. It’s a big learning curve.
“I couldn’t go into a better team really, between them Pat and Liam have so much Supercar and rallycross experience, and I get on really well with them. I’d definitely love to get on the podium a couple of times this season. Of course, everyone wants to win, and I’ll be trying for that but I just want to get my first race out of the way and see how it goes.”
The full entry list for round two is yet to be released, but expectations are high of a full quality entry when the first round of the Toyo Tyres MSA British Rallycross Championship takes place at Croft Circuit next week (March 19).
