Lydden Hill Race Circuit is delighted to announce the flame-spitting return of the Group B rallycross demonstration at the forthcoming 2016 World Rallycross of Great Britain on the 28th and 29th of May.
Back by popular demand, the unique live action display will be one of the limited occasions to see Group B machinery going wheel-to-wheel in a series of full speed exhibition races.
Retro Rallycross Championship organizer Shirley Gibson explains: “It’s a fabulous opportunity to bring the back the old cars that so many spectators remember and love. The display has proven a definite crowd favourite, when we have brought it to previous World and European Rallycross rounds at Lydden Hill. The Retro Rallycross Team have supported the MSA British Rallycross Championship for over four years, so naturally we are excited to continue to be a part of the World Rallycross Championship round at Lydden Hill.”
At the time of writing, confirmed entries for the live action display include: Will Gollop’s former MG Metro 6R4 driven by Adam Keeler, a freshly rebuilt 800bhp Ford RS200 owned and driven by Pat Doran, Gary Baker’s former European Rallycross converted Ford RS200 – driven by Nigel Mummery. Chasing them down will also be a pack of MG Metros driven by Rob Gibson, Ian Rowlance and John Rowlance.
In addition to the on track action, there will also be a static display of Group B and retro rallycross machinery in the paddock, headlined by a very special MG Metro 6R4 formerly owned by rally legend Colin McRae.
A spokesperson for Lydden Hill added: “Group B cars were some of the fastest, most powerful - and for their time - sophisticated rally cars built. We are excited to be hosting them again, as part of our schedule for the FIA World Rallycross of Great Britain. The demonstration races are an absolutely fantastic addition to what is going to be an action packed weekend of top-level world rallycross racing.”
