Oliver Bennett promises to fight for World RX at Lydden Hill

Briton Oliver Bennett has promised to give it his all at the British round of the FIA World Rallycross Championship presented by Monster Energy at Lydden Hill. The 24 year-old looks set to join the World RX of Great Britain line-up which takes place in Kent on May 27-28 in an OlsbergsMSE-built Ford Fiesta Supercar run by Quick Motorsport.

Currently joint second in the British Rallycross Championship, Bennett is relishing the prospect of racing at his home event, and is not fazed by sharing the tarmac and gravel with the likes Petter Solberg, Sebastien Loeb and Ken Block.

“Obviously, the world’s greatest rallycross drivers will be at Lydden, such as Petter, Loeb and someone I'm a massive fan of, Ken Block. Coming from 10 years racing at a high level in motocross I'm not adverse to rubbing elbows with fellow racers and hanging on. Anything is possible with the nature of rallycross, from joker laps to mechanical issues to racing strategy on the track. You can outrun experience with a heavy right foot!

“To mix it up with these guys is a huge pleasure, from testing the first time in the car and being told to slow down on the first lap I knew it was a sport, track and car that suited my driving style. So far I have got to second in the British rallycross championship by being a consistent driver with consistent lap times and I feel like I have adapted to rallycross well.”

The Bristol racer will head to the event with just three rallycross events under his best, as he also competes in a race at Pembrey, but has already secured a podium finish last time out at Lydden in the second round of the British Rallycross Championship.

“We had a good first time podium result at Lydden so I'll be using my past data to hopefully knock a second or two off my lap times and bring a competitive package to the event. This will be helped by the backing of XITE Energy and the mechanics at Quick Motorsport, who helped Ken Block develop some of his cars.

“We have been watching the others closely to see how their car developments have changed over the year especially the set up of the suspension, which we are modifying this week with the technical support of Ohlins and OMSE, before testing at Pembrey.  I’m in safe hands and we’re going to come out throttle wide open!”

Entries for the event, round five of World RX closed last week, with the entry lists across Supercar, TouringCars and RX2 expected to be released shortly.
